Politician Sajad Gani Lone of Jammu and Kashmir shared his thoughts with ANI in a candid interview, highlighting the challenges faced by those associated with separatism and highlighting how his personal connections to both mainstream and separatist figures make his political journey difficult. He also pointed out that while the BJP frequently glorifies the National Conference, the reality on the ground in Kashmir paints a different picture.
Apology from the Prime Minister
Lone passionately believes that the Prime Minister should apologize to the people of Kashmir. He argued that while Kashmir may have once questioned its place in India, it now feels as though India doesn’t want them to be a part of the nation. He suggested that the Prime Minister should acknowledge past mistakes and humiliations inflicted upon the Kashmiri people and offer a heartfelt apology. In his words, “Kashmir is a part of India like any other state, and an apology would open the doors for reconciliation.”
Yasin Malik’s Fair Trial
In the interview, Lone also commented on Yasin Malik, a controversial separatist leader. While acknowledging disagreements, Sajad Gani Lone strongly believes that Malik deserved a fair trial. He claimed that the media painted a false picture of Malik’s surrender, and in reality, Malik had lost faith in the legal system. According to Lone, a rigged election in the past gave some individuals the justification to pick up arms, adding that those who pushed the people to such extremes also need to be held accountable.
