HP News: In a notable political development, three independent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Himachal Pradesh have tendered their resignations from the State Assembly. According to reports from ANI, the trio is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), heralding a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
Resignation and Shift in Allegiance
Following their decision, the trio made their way to Shimla on Friday, where they met with opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur before submitting their resignations to the Assembly secretary. Speaking to the press, Hoshiyar Singh confirmed their resignation and expressed their intent to align with the BJP for future electoral endeavors. This move signals a significant political realignment within the state, with the Independent MLAs opting to join the BJP camp.
Allegations Against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
One of the key factors cited by the Independent MLAs for their resignation was their dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s administration. They accused Sukhu of resorting to vindictive measures, including targeting them and their families with false legal proceedings.
Role in Rajya Sabha Elections
During the Rajya Sabha elections held the previous month, the three Independent MLAs, along with six dissident Congress members, chose to support the BJP candidate. This move proved pivotal in securing the victory for the BJP nominee in the face of opposition from the ruling Congress party. The decision to side with the BJP in the Rajya Sabha polls likely influenced their subsequent decision to resign from their Independent status and align themselves formally with the BJP.
