Subhargshu Roy asserted that the family had complained to airport police officers, police sources stated that no official complaint had yet been received. Since rejoining the Mamata Banerjee-led party one and a half years ago from the BJP, Roy, 68, has kept a low profile. He was a crucial figure in the BJP’s Bengal strategy, which helped the saffron party win 18 of the state’s 42 total seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In 2017, Roy, a former TMC number two, defected to the BJP due to disagreements with the leadership. The BJP elevated him to national vice president. Following the announcement of the results, Roy, who ran for office on a BJP ticket in the 2021 assembly elections, switched back to the TMC. Roy ran for the Nadia district’s Krishnanagar Uttar Assembly seat in the 2021 elections. He was successful in winning, but the BJP came in last.
