Tragedy in North Bengal! Goods Train Collides with Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express, Rescue Efforts Underway

A cargo train collides with the crowded Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express in Jalpaiguri, causing a terrible train disaster in North Bengal that is thought to have killed several people and injured many more. Authorities are working quickly to give the victims medical attention as rescue activities are in progress.

Kanchenjunga Express Accident: Following the collision of a cargo train with a crowded Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express in north Bengal on Monday morning, several people are thought to be dead and numerous others injured. “The rear collision of the Kanchanjunga Express has been reported near Jalpaiguri. Details of casualties and injured persons are awaited,” said a senior railway official.

Early Morning Catastrophe in North Bengal

The catastrophe happened at 8:30 a.m. on a train that was traveling from Agartala to the Sealdah station in Kolkata. One of the biggest and busiest stations in the Northeast Frontier Railway zone in eastern and northeastern India, New Jalpaiguri station in north Bengal, was around 11 kilometers away from the scene of the crash.

“Shocked to learn just now about a tragic train accident in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. While details are awaited, Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a goods train. The DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have been rushed to the site for rescue, recovery, medical assistance. Action on war-footing initiated,” West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on X.

Two Bogies Derailed in the Collision

According to sources, the collision caused at least two of the Kanchanjunga Express’s bogies to derrail. Thousands of people visit the hill stations of Sikkim and north Bengal during this busy travel season. “Rescue operations have started and injured passengers were being shifted to the hospital,” said a railway official posted in NJP.
