Two Army officers, Cop die in encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir

Following a battle between security personnel and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, an Indian Army Colonel, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police were killed.

Earlier in the day, a police officer informed news agency PTI that an encounter had broken out between security personnel and militants hiding in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district. A Colonel of the Army Rajasthan Rifles, a Major of a Company, and a DSP of the J&K Police Department were killed in action. The clash between security personnel and militants is still ongoing.

Army leaders led the troops from the front after they had gone to look for terrorists in the region based on particular intelligence. DGP Dilbag Singh of J&K, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, and Army men hurried to the encounter site to oversee the operation.

Militants were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba

According to sources, the squad of security agents was pursuing terrorists in a hideout. As they ascended a building, 2-3 militants hiding within began fire. The Colonel died on the scene, and the other two officials were shot. They were taken to a hospital in Srinagar, where they died as a result of their injuries. According to sources, the terrorists were members of “The Resistance Front,” a front group of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Here’s what Army officials said

The Army Officials said, “An Indian Army Colonel commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Unit along with a Major have lost their lives in an encounter in Anantnag with terrorists in Kashmir. The officer was commanding 19 RR. A Jammu and Kashmir Police official also lost his life in the encounter. The Army officers were leading the troops from the front after they had gone to search for terrorists in the area based on specific intelligence.”

Meanwhile, two militants were killed by security forces during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri’s Narla district. A terrorist was killed in a confrontation with security personnel in Jammu & Kashmir’s Reasi district on September 4. During the exchange of fire, a police officer was also hurt.
