Zika Virus: On Monday, Pune reported the first two Zika virus cases of the year, including a doctor and his teenager daughter. Testing positive for the Zika virus is a 46-year-old Erandwane doctor and his 15-year-old daughter. While other family members have tested negative, the daughter is exhibiting moderate symptoms including a fever.
What is Zika Virus?
The Aedes aegypti mosquito, which also spreads dengue and chikungunya, is the source of the Zika virus, which can cause fever, rash, joint discomfort, and headaches. Zika can cause birth problems, so even though most people recover completely, it’s always vital to exercise caution, especially if you’re pregnant.
Stay Protected This Monsoon
To stop the Zika virus from spreading, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is acting. However, you may also contribute! This monsoon season, take these easy precautions to protect your family and yourself from illnesses spread by mosquitoes:
- Wear clothing that covers your arms and legs to avoid getting bit, especially around dark and morning when mosquitoes are most active. Apply a lotion that repels mosquitoes that contains DEET or other recommended substances.
- Inspect your surroundings for any objects—such as broken pots, old tyres, or clogged drains—that may retain stagnant water. For mosquitoes, these are ideal nesting sites. Keep your surroundings neat and empty them on a regular basis.
- Become a Water Warrior by replacing the water in storage containers such as coolers everyday. Mosquito larvae may find a home in even little amounts of water.
- Avoid allowing rainwater to gather on your terrace, within your home, or anywhere else on your land. Eliminate any standing water to stop mosquitoes from breeding.
We can all help stop the spread of Zika and other illnesses carried by mosquitoes by performing these easy steps. Remember that the secret to being healthy is having a clean and healthy environment!
