Assembly Elections 2024: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced key dates for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra. While Uttar Pradesh is gearing up for by-elections, the assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra are expected to shape the future political landscape of these states. Voting will occur in different phases, with the final results slated for November 23, 2024.

UP By-Elections: Ten Crucial Seats in Play

The by-elections in Uttar Pradesh are set for November 13, 2024, covering 10 legislative assembly seats. These seats, including prominent constituencies like Katehari (Ambedkarnagar), Ghaziabad, Karhal (Mainpuri), Sisamau (Kanpur), and Milkipur (Ayodhya), will witness heated competition. Other important constituencies include Kundarki (Moradabad), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), and Majhava (Mirzapur). The ruling BJP will look to defend its dominance, while the opposition parties will aim to turn the tide in their favor.

Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 Dates

Maharashtra will hold its assembly elections in a single phase on November 20, 2024. The state will see a direct contest between the ruling Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the BJP, Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP.

Maharashtra’s political scene has been volatile in recent years, especially with the split in the Shiv Sena and the fall of the MVA government in 2022. The BJP and its allies are hoping to solidify their power, while the MVA seeks to regain control after a series of political shifts.

Jharkhand Assembly Election 2024 Dates

Jharkhand’s assembly elections will be held in two phases, on November 13 and November 20, 2024. The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is set to face a tough challenge from the BJP.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance secured a decisive victory, winning 47 out of 81 seats. The BJP, which had governed the state prior to that election, managed to win only 25 seats. This election will test whether the JMM-led alliance can maintain its hold, or if the BJP will unseat them and reclaim power.

Results on November 23: A Day of Political Consequences

The Election Commission of India has set November 23, 2024, as the day when results for the UP by-elections and the Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections will be announced.

These elections are seen as a test for both regional and national parties. While the UP By-Elections will offer insights into the local dynamics of the most populous state, the assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra will be crucial for the balance of power in these regions. The stakes are high, and the results will undoubtedly shape the strategies of all major political players going forward.
