Uttar Pradesh: The Gautam Budh Nagar police in India have implemented prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC throughout the district as the holiday season draws near. The orders, which became effective on March 1, will be in effect through March 31. The limitations have been implemented in order to manage large public gatherings, preserve local law and order, and guarantee that COVID-19 safety regulations will be followed during the forthcoming celebrations.
Protect against potential security risk
The decision to impose section 144, according to the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate, was made to protect against potential security risks and guarantee public safety during the holiday season. In addition to posting the full order on Twitter, the police department also warned that “action will be taken under Section-188 IPC for violation” of the directive.
Orders forbid public gatherings and protests
In the event of potential disruptions to the peace and order of a region, the government may take preventive action under Section 144 of the CrPC. The section gives the district magistrate or a subdivisional magistrate the authority to issue orders for the sake of peace, order, and safety of the public. The orders forbid public gatherings, protests, or meetings, as well as the carrying of firearms or other weapons.
Orders under section 144
The Gautam Budh Nagar police have been putting forth a lot of effort to keep the neighbourhood safe throughout the holiday season, which is typically characterised by sizable gatherings and celebrations. The police department seeks to contain any potential unrest during the celebrations and stop the spread of COVID-19 by enforcing the prohibitory orders under section 144.
