Uttar Pradesh News: Women will now feel safer riding in buses in Uttar Pradesh as the state government is getting ready to put panic buttons in every bus. The Uttar Pradesh government has worked with a Japanese company to install the panic buttons in a fleet of 6,000 buses, and the work would be completed during the current fiscal year.
How Panic Buttons and GPS in Buses Enhance Passengers’ Security
According to officials, all buses will have GPS installed to track their location in real time. Additionally, the action will benefit passengers by giving them access to real-time bus movement information. “Installation of panic buttons through Nirbhaya funds is one of the most important developments. The move will ensure safe transportation for women. In case of any emergency, they can press the panic button,” Yajurved Singh, general manager (IT), Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), was quoted as saying by News 18. He continued by saying that in order to assure the installation of panic buttons in buses, the UP transport department worked with the Japanese company NEC. Singh provided more information, stating that every bus would have at least 10 panic buttons placed in several easily accessible locations. He further stated that these buttons would be connected to the UPSRT headquarters’ special control room as well as the Dial 112 emergency response support system (ERSS). “Panic buttons are programmed in a way that on pressing the button, the information, location, name and other details of the driver and other essential information would be passed on to the control room and 112 helpline. They will then coordinate with the local police and ensure immediate help to the passenger in need,” Singh added.
Chhattisgarh Government’s Move to Implement Panic Buttons and GPS in Buses
The transport department will also put GPS in all of its buses, according to officials, in addition to installing panic buttons, to provide passengers with real-time movement information. “This would also help passengers plan their journey accordingly,” officials said. It is important to remember that the concept of adding emergency buttons to public buses was initially put forth in 2021. The idea, however, was unable to be carried out because of administrative and technological obstacles. The UP transport department currently has over 11,000 buses on the road, serving as a lifeline for daily commuters. In addition to Uttar Pradesh, the Chhattisgarh government also intends to put panic buttons in passenger buses to improve safety precautions. The campaign aimed to safeguard youngsters and women riding school buses. Pressing the panic button will instantly alert the control room in the event of any undesirable situations aboard the bus. The new function, according to the Chhattisgarh government, will offer real-time data on the buses’ location and speed. The use of panic buttons is anticipated to lessen the possibility of any unfavourable situations involving women and pupils in addition to reducing driver misconduct. The installation of panic buttons and GPS in buses has been announced by the Transport Department of Chhattisgarh to ensure the safety of female passengers and will considerably help the general public in coping with probable hazards and unfavourable occurrences.
