UP Nikay Chunaav 2023: Urban local body elections are planned to be held in two stages on May 4 and 11. The Uttar Pradesh Police has created a watertight security plan for those elections. 2 lakh men in uniform, consisting of 35 companies of the central armed police forces and 86 companies of the PAC, have been deployed for the first round of voting, which will take place in 37 districts. According to senior police officials, the security apparatus will also include up to 19880 inspectors, 1.01 lakh head constables, 47,985 house guards, and 7,500 trainee sub-inspectors.
1101 people have been arrested under the Gangster Act so far
Prashant Kumar, the special director general for law and order, stated that in order to ensure a peaceful election, 1,101 people have been arrested under the Gangster Act so far, and another 14 people who were already in custody and sought bail before the election have been given NSA. “More 2012 troublemakers have been expelled from several state districts. In the previous 15 days, 6.48 lakh additional people were also arrested for violating the peace, according to Kumar. During the exercise, 42 illicit factories producing pistols built in the country were shut down, and 2958 weapons and 4500 cartridges were found there. Similar to that, 3470kg worth of low intensity explosives were found.

7426 vehicles were impounded for violating the election code
Additionally, the police detained 987 individuals for smuggling drugs worth Rs 37 crore, while also seizing 2.99 lakh litres of illicit alcohol and booking 766 individuals for manufacturing/smuggling the same. According to Kumar, 7426 vehicles were impounded for violating the election code, and 8.19 lakh were booked for breaking laws throughout the state. “Patrolling has been stepped up near the polling places and in the May 4 election regions,” added Kumar.
