Uttar Pradesh: According to Jal Shakti department officials, Uttar Pradesh has surpassed Maharashtra to move up to second place among Indian states in terms of the number of water connections it provides to rural areas. Bihar is currently first on the list.
Yogi Adityanath personally oversees implementation of Har Ghar Jal scheme in UP
UP has made sure that lakhs of rural homes receive over 40,000 water connections each day. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, was directly overseeing the scheme’s implementation, according to officials. ‘The state has implemented the Har Ghar Jal (water in each home) scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission, providing 1,12,97,534 functional household tap water connections (FHTCs), pushing Maharashtra behind with 1,11,22,327 FHTCs,’ the officials said in a release. ‘Badaun, Shravasti, Lucknow, Kasganj, Kanpur Dehat, and Sant Ravidas Nagar are included in the national ranking of delivering water connections to 50% of homes by May 14, 2023. They have made substantial progress in assuring water supply. Currently, more than 50% of rural families in 32 UP districts have access to clean drinking water from the tap, including Lucknow and Kanpur. Hardoi comes in first place, followed by Aligarh, among the districts that connect 25% of rural homes to water,’ according to the officials.

Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev sets new goals for Har Ghar Jal mission in Uttar Pradesh
‘UP is an inspirational example of a state that is putting the Har Ghar Jal mission into practise. Newer objectives are being established for us.’ According to Jal Shakti minister Swatantra Dev, ‘the goal is to make sure that no poor person lacks access to clean drinking water at their doorstep.’ The Officials said, ‘The provision of daily water connections to more than 50% of rural households places UP top on the national ranking. In this category, Bihar comes in second.’
