Ration cards: Uttarakhand government will cancel the ration cards which have not been brought in use for last one year. State Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Rekha Arya made the announcement on Monday at a departmental meeting. She further informed that a notice will be issued to the card holders who haven’t used their cards for over one year before cancellation. If they fail to come up with an adequate reason, their cards will are no longer of use, she added, stating the idea of ration card is to help the needy.
Uttarakhand Govt to cancel unused ration cards
Uttarakhand has approximately 23 lakh ration card holders. The defaulters, who have not been using their cards for over one year, will be served with a notice, state minister of food and civil supplies Rekha Arya informed.
“We will serve notice to all those card holders who have not availed any facility from the public distribution system since the past one year. If they fail to respond with adequate reason then their cards would be cancelled and another needy about 23 lakh ration card holders,” she said.
Defaulters to be segregated
The district supply officers have been told to put up a list of defaulters outside the warehouse. They have also been asked to complain against them in case they approach the warehouse. From the 2023-24 financial year, the state plans to provide 2 kg sugar and 1 kg salt.
