Uttarakhand News: Congress Alleges BJP’s Role in Communalising Purola Incident, Demands Accountability

Uttarakhand News

Uttarakhand News: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power, has come under fire from the opposition Congress for allegedly trying to give a communal spin to an alleged attempt to kidnap a child on May 26 that led to unrest in Purola, Uttarakhand. Allegations of “love jihad,” a term used by right-wing organisations to characterise an alleged Muslim plot to court Hindu women, were made in response to the claimed attempt to kidnap the girl by a Muslim and a Hindu man. The phrase is not recognised by courts or the Union government in any official capacity.

Right-Wing Protests and Vandalism Rock Purola as Muslim-Owned Businesses Become Targets

Right-wing organisations protested and vandalised Muslim-owned businesses and homes after the two suspects were taken into custody on May 27. A Hindu mahapanchayat (grand assembly) was not allowed to take place because of posters in Purola urging Muslim business owners to close their doors and leave the state by June 15. Threats caused forty of the town’s forty-five Muslim businesspeople and citizens to flee. The leader of the Uttarakhand Congress, Karan Mahara, stated on Sunday that the party has maintained from the beginning that the ruling party and entities connected to it are attempting to give the Purola case a communal spin. It is regrettable. In contrast, when a Pauri Garhwal receptionist was killed and a BJP leader’s son was involved, right-wing parties kept quiet.

Alleged Resort Killing Exposes Disturbing Undercurrents and Political Connections

A resort’s 19-year-old receptionist is accused of being killed for declining to give “extra services” to VIP visitors. The resort’s owner and one of the defendants in the lawsuit is Pulkit Arya, the son of former minister Vinod Arya. Vinod Arya was expelled from the BJP after being charged with attempted sexual assault. Manveer Singh Chauhan, a BJP leader, claimed that the Purola situation is not unique. “Numerous cases of this nature have been reported throughout Uttarakhand. It implies that a conspiracy is at play. Right-wing organisations and our party are working to spread awareness. We never arbitrarily choose a community to target. The goal of our party is crystal clear: Any attempts to alter the state’s demographics will be rejected.
