Uttarakhand News: Dehradun, where a survey will soon begin. According to a TOI article, if completed, this ambitious project would not only expand its reach to the twin cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh, encouraging greater communication between the three major towns of Uttarakhand.
Awarded Contract for Initial Phase
The contract for the initial phase has been awarded to IG Drones, a company specialising in drone technology and analytics, which will undertake a detailed topographical study. The major goal is to create a detailed project report (DPR) for Dehradun‘s projected Personalised Rapid Transit line (PRT). The proposed PRT corridor will run from Panditwari to the railway station, from Clement Town to Balliwala, and from Gandhi Park to the IT Park.
PRT’s Significance in Dehradun’s Metro Plans
“The PRT will serve as a vital feeder line for the forthcoming metro corridor in Dehradun,” Gopal Sharma, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Uttarakhand Metro Rail, Urban Infrastructure and Building Construction Corporation Limited, told ET. ‘The first phase envisions two metro lines, one from ISBT to Gandhi Park and the other from FRI to Raipur,’ he added.
Dehradun Metro Train Proposal Gets Green Light
Sharma further said that the state cabinet approved the Dehradun metro train proposal in February 2022. However, development has been stalled while the Union government considers the matter. The survey is expected to be completed within two months after the start date, according to the ‘letter of acceptance’ given by the Uttarakhand Metro Rail, Urban Infrastructure and Building Construction Corporation.
