A Series of Landslides in Uttarakhand
This tragic event has been part of many landslides that hit Uttarakhand in the past few days. July 19 blocked the Tanakpur Champawat National Highway with debris caused by a landslide due to intermittent rainfall. On July 10, earlier, landslide caused a blockage on the hill near the Patal Ganga Langsi tunnel on the Badrinath National Highway. The highway to Badrinath is the worst-affected one, with several points blocked by rubble.
The district administration and local government are on high alert and are leaving nothing to chance in terms of forestalling further outbreaks and ensuring that residents and tourists are safe. It simply puts into bold relief once again that some sort of integrated disaster management strategy is required in mitigation of the debilitating effects of natural disasters in this region.
