Uttarakhand News: Tragedy struck as a landslide on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Rudraprayag district claimed the lives of five individuals, including three pilgrims from Gujarat. This unfortunate incident coincided with a warning from the Meteorological Department (MeT) on Friday, indicating heavy rainfall expected in six districts of Uttarakhand over the upcoming days.

Tragic incident due to landslide
The tragic incident unfolded when a car carrying five individuals was caught under the debris of a landslide at Tarsali in the Phata area along the Kedarnath Yatra route in Rudraprayag district on Thursday night. Although continuous rainfall had posed challenges, a temporary respite in the precipitation on Friday allowed for the recovery of their bodies.T he deceased individuals comprised three devotees from Gujarat and one from Haridwar.
The Meteorological Department has issued an “orange” alert, indicating the potential for heavy rain, in six districts of the state for Friday. Furthermore, a “red” alert, signifying even more severe conditions, has been declared for the following three days.
Responding to the critical situation, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an on-site assessment of the rain-affected Kotdwar area. This area had recently experienced a landslide resulting in the disappearance of an individual a few days prior. Additionally, numerous bridges were also damaged, causing a severe isolation of a substantial population from the rest of the state.

Red Alert issued in Uttarakhand
Dhami conveyed that he has issued instructions for the district administration and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to remain on high alert for a continuous 24-hour period. He is personally overseeing every situation, staying in contact with the relevant authorities. The Dehradun Meteorological Center has issued a “red” alert from August 12 to 14.
According to information from the State Emergency Operation Center, a total of 58 people have tragically lost their lives during this monsoon, with 37 individuals sustaining injuries and 19 others remaining missing in various incidents. Furthermore, 1,167 houses suffered damage, including 33 that were completely destroyed, and substantial agricultural land was washed away.
