Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered about 600 families of Joshimath city to immediately vacate those houses which have developed major cracks and are in danger of submergence. After reviewing the situation in the city with the officials through video conferencing, Dhami told the media on Friday that saving lives is our first priority. Officials have been asked to shift about 600 families living in dilapidated houses in Joshimath to safer places. Pushkar Singh Dhami said that work is also underway on short and long term plans to deal with the situation in Joshimath.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also has a program to visit Joshimath on Saturday and meet the affected people and hold a meeting with the officials. Dhami said that Garhwal Commissioner Sushil Kumar and Secretary (Disaster Management) Ranjit Kumar Sinha along with a team of experts are camping at the spot to continuously monitor the situation. Dhami told the officials that rehabilitation of people from the affected area should be done expeditiously. He said that treatment facilities should be available on the spot and arrangements should also be made to airlift people.
A disaster control room should also be set up in the town
Dhami said that along with an immediate action plan, a long term action plan should be prepared and work on both should be started in the right direction. He said that the procedures should be simplified to speed up the work of treatment of danger zone, sewer and drainage. Dhami said that the life of our citizens is most important for us. Joshimath should be divided into sectors and zones and action should be taken accordingly. A disaster control room should also be set up in the town. He said that alternative places should be identified at Pipalkoti, Gauchar and other places for permanent rehabilitation of the affected people. Dhami said that it is necessary to take people to safer places. Satellite images can also be useful for this.
