Chief Minister Journalist Pension Scheme: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently announced a significant increase in the Journalist Welfare Fund, enhancing its resources by ₹2 crore. Under the ‘Chief Minister Journalist Pension Scheme,’ this boost in funds aims to better support journalists in need, providing assistance during times of personal or financial hardship. CM Dhami also extended a financial grant of ₹5 lakh to the family of the late journalist Durga Nautiyal, showing the government’s dedication to supporting the bereaved families of journalists who have contributed to society.
Strengthening Journalist Support Systems in Uttarakhand
The increase in the Journalist Welfare Fund reflects the Uttarakhand government’s commitment to strengthening the support system for media professionals in the state. The enhanced fund will serve as a safety net for journalists facing health challenges, financial instability, or other emergencies. Chief Minister Dhami reiterated the government’s belief in the important role that journalists play in society, especially in a democratic framework, and expressed a desire to ensure they have the necessary support and security.
Future Provisions Under the Journalist Pension Scheme
In addition to these immediate aid measures, the Uttarakhand government is exploring other provisions under the ‘Chief Minister Journalist Pension Scheme’ to ensure long-term security for journalists. This includes retirement benefits and additional healthcare support, aiming to give journalists a dependable resource base. Through this scheme, the government envisions a future where media professionals in Uttarakhand can pursue their work with a greater sense of security and recognition.
This series of initiatives not only offers tangible support but also acknowledges the risks and challenges journalists face, reinforcing Uttarakhand’s commitment to a strong, independent, and supported press community.
