Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami (CM Puskar Singh Dhami) said that now the bearing capacity of all hill stations will be assessed and if any city has crossed its bearing capacity, construction works will be stopped there in a systematic manner.
In fact, one of the reasons behind the cracks in the houses and the sinking ground in Joshimath is also believed to be uncontrolled construction there. Today Joshimath is facing the brunt of haphazard and unplanned construction. The situation is that now this entire area is on the verge of becoming landlocked. In such a situation, the demand has started rising that some serious steps should be taken in time.
Scientists are apprehensive that due to increasing population, tourist pressure and uncontrolled construction, hill station Nainital, Mussoorie and many other mountain cities may also face this threat. Taking cognizance of this, the government has now issued instructions to prepare drainage and sewer plans for all hill stations along with assessment of bearing capacity. Ranjit Sinha, Secretary, Disaster Management has confirmed this.
However, Bhatwadi of Uttarkashi, Nainital, Dharchula of Pithoragarh, Kunwari village of Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Pauri, many towns are prone to landslides and landslides and mainly due to unplanned constructionIt should be expected that even if it is late, a lesson must be taken from Joshimath, so that no other city has to see this day in future. In the year 2003, there was a landslide on the Varunavat mountain and when uncontrolled construction started by cutting the mountain in this city situated in the foothills, then more than two hundred houses had to be shifted. Now Joshimath is also repeating the same tragedy.
The city has exceeded its bearing capacity
Due to the construction of projects, indiscriminate hotels, unplanned construction of buildings in Joshimath, the city has crossed its bearing capacity and brought the city to the brink of ruin. Geologist SP Sati It is said that hill towns have become time bombs in this way. Therefore, now the time has come that a comprehensive policy should be made for the development of the mountain with a complete study.
