Dehradun News: The headquarters of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Dehradun is once again at the center of relocation discussions. Over the past decade, several key departments and sections have been moved, reducing the employee count from 2,800 to approximately 1,300. In response to the ongoing relocation efforts, the ONGC Staff Union has urgently appealed to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to intervene.
ONGC Headquarters Shift Sparks Concerns, Staff Union Appeals to Chief Minister
The ONGC Staff Union has formally submitted a letter to the Chief Minister, requesting him to halt the transfer of departments and sections from the Dehradun headquarters. Union General Secretary Ajay Sharma confirmed the submission and mentioned that they have also requested a meeting with the Chief Minister. The union fears that the gradual shifting of departments to New Delhi could eventually lead to the complete relocation of the headquarters.
Union President Heera Singh Bisht has warned that they will not allow the alleged conspiracy to relocate the ONGC headquarters from Dehradun to succeed. The concerns of the union are not unfounded. In 2018, there was an attempt to transfer ONGC’s Permanent Account Number (PAN) from Dehradun to Delhi, which was halted due to union protests.
According to the letter sent to the Chief Minister, several major departments have already been relocated from the Dehradun headquarters over the past two decades, including Corporate Health, Safety, and Environment, Corporate Accounts, Corporate Budget, Corporate Materials Management, Central Payroll, Head Sports, ONGC Football and Hockey Teams, ED-Security, Chief Geophysical Services, Corporate Vigilance, and Pre-Audit.
The union’s appeal highlights the critical need for intervention to prevent further relocation and ensure that ONGC’s headquarters remains in Dehradun, preserving jobs and maintaining the city’s status as a key center for the corporation.
