Dehradun News: In response to the persistent traffic chaos and mismanagement in Dehradun, local police are contemplating the adoption of the odd-even formula, a strategy akin to Delhi’s traffic management. However, the final decision will hinge on public and stakeholder feedback.
Police Consider Odd-Even Formula to Tackle Traffic Issues
To commence this initiative, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh initiated public engagement by hosting a Facebook Live session on a Sunday evening. During this session, Singh explained that the plan would initially be implemented on weekends, given that traffic issues tend to escalate during these times.
Exemptions would be made for two-wheelers
He further clarified that certain vehicles would be exempted from these restrictions, including those involved in essential and emergency services, as well as government-owned vehicles. Additionally, exemptions would be made for two-wheelers, vehicles owned by parents of schoolgoing children, and tourists from other states.
Furthermore, Singh emphasized the importance of seeking input from a variety of stakeholders. This approach will involve discussions with traders, parents of schoolgoing children, public transport operators, and other relevant parties. The suggestions gathered from these stakeholders will undergo thorough analysis, and the final decision will be made based on the prevailing public opinion. This demonstrates a commitment to democratic and inclusive decision-making in the endeavor to address Dehradun’s traffic challenges.
