Dehradun News: Starting Sunday, pre-monsoon rains have begun in Uttarakhand, increasing the risk of dengue spread in the state capital, Dehradun. In response, the health department has launched a public awareness campaign, with health workers visiting households to educate residents about dengue prevention.
Health Workers Mobilized for Dengue Prevention
To combat dengue, the health department has enlisted the help of ASHA workers. These workers are conducting door-to-door visits, educating people about dengue, inspecting surroundings for potential larva sites, and destroying mosquito larvae. Last year, dengue affected several areas in Dehradun, prompting the health department to intensify awareness and larva elimination efforts in those regions this year.
Intensive Awareness Campaign Launched
Under this campaign, ASHA workers are providing information on dengue prevention directly to residents. According to Dehradun’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sanjay Jain, precautionary activities are being conducted in urban areas of Dehradun district as part of this initiative. The campaign focuses on the elimination of dengue larvae and spreading awareness about preventive measures. Dr. Jain urged the public to maintain cleanliness around their homes and emphasized that awareness is key to controlling the spread of dengue.
Tips for Preventing Dengue
To prevent dengue, residents are advised to:
- Clean standing water around their homes at least twice a week.
- Change the water in coolers regularly.
- Keep drinking water covered.
- Wear clothing that covers the body, and ensure children wear long-sleeved clothes.
- Prevent water from accumulating in plant pots, old broken containers, tires, etc.
By following these measures and staying vigilant, the spread of dengue can be effectively controlled, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
