Dehradun News: In a significant development, the civil hospital in Rudrapur, US Nagar, is taking strides towards providing comprehensive medical care within the district. The hospital is gearing up to offer chemotherapy services, aiming to cater to cancer patients locally. Presently, individuals diagnosed with cancer often face the challenge of traveling to distant facilities like Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani, Ram Murti Hospital Bhojipura in Bareilly, AIIMS Rishikesh, or private hospitals for essential chemotherapy treatments.
Local Access to Chemotherapy Services: A Game-Changer for Cancer Patients
To address this gap in healthcare accessibility, the district hospital is establishing a dedicated unit equipped with five beds to provide chemotherapy services. In preparation for this initiative, two doctors and two staff nurses from the hospital have undergone specialized training at AIIMS Rishikesh. Dr. RK Sinha, the principal medical superintendent of the district hospital, expressed enthusiasm about this development, emphasizing that local access to chemotherapy services would be a transformative step in enhancing healthcare infrastructure within the district.
Recognition and Challenges in District Healthcare
Notably, the Rudrapur unit has received recognition for the second consecutive time under the Kayakalp programme, being acknowledged as the best district hospital in the state. However, challenges persist in other sub-district hospitals like Khatima, which did not receive any awards. The shortage of doctors is cited as a primary reason, underscoring the ongoing need for comprehensive efforts to strengthen healthcare services in all parts of the district.
