Dehradun Weather Update: The monsoon season has made a robust return to many parts of Uttarakhand, including the capital city of Dehradun, also known as Doon. The region has been experiencing frequent and intense rain showers, with some areas even witnessing heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning. The persistent heavy rains in Doon have led to waterlogging in several localities, causing inconvenience to residents. Moreover, the heavy rains in the hilly areas surrounding Doon have once again raised concerns about the stability of infrastructure, particularly in the IT Park region. In response to this situation, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in five districts, including Dehradun, for the next three days.
Camp of Clouds Over Doon
Following a night of heavy rainfall in most parts of Doon, Thursday morning saw the skies covered with clouds. Throughout the day, there were one to two rounds of intense showers in various areas, with occasional light drizzles in some places. The evening brought more heavy rainfall to Doon, exacerbating the waterlogging issues in several parts of the city. The increased rainfall in the Mussoorie and Dhanaulti regions further contributed to rising water levels in rivers and drains within Doon. The surge in IT Park Rapte caused traffic disruptions, affecting commuters for an extended period.
Anticipating More Rain
Meteorological Center Director Bikram Singh has indicated that this weather pattern is likely to persist for the next three days across many areas, including Dehradun. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder in isolated locations within Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Chamoli, and Bageshwar, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert. Additionally, light to moderate showers are expected in other districts as well.
Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi took action in response to the damage caused by the heavy rain and visited Kandoli on Thursday. During his inspection, he assessed the damage to a culvert and road caused by the rain. Afterward, he provided necessary directives to officials from the Public Works Department and Electricity Department. Local residents expressed concerns about the presence of an electric pole near the culvert, which posed a risk of collapsing. In response to this, the Cabinet Minister instructed officials to promptly relocate the electric pole to a safer location to address this pressing issue.
