It will be mandatory to install Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTS), popularly known as GPS, in all commercial vehicles going on Chardham Yatra. Transport Minister Chandan Ram Das made it clear in the meeting with the transport companies that this is very important for the safety of the passengers as well as the vehicle.
On Wednesday, Transport Minister Chandan Ram Das held a meeting in connection with the Chardham Yatra at the Transport Commissioner’s office. During this, he inquired about the vehicles being operated in Chardham Yatra. In the meeting, transport businessmen raised the issue of installing GPS on vehicles.
Headquarter control room said that its cost is very high and there is no system to monitor it at the headquarters. On this, the Transport Minister said that the control room has been set up at the headquarters. He said that the cost of GPS here is not very high. In such a situation, it is necessary to install GPS in vehicles for safe travel.
Green card will not be made if there is no GPS
It was told in the meeting that green card for travel of commercial vehicles will be made only when the vehicles are fitted with GPS. It was told that after 2019, companies are installing GPS in all the vehicles in the state. Vehicle owners have to install it in pre-2019 vehicles. He made it clear that there will be no increase in the fare for the journey.
