Uttarakhand News: The Pindar river and its tributary Pranmati in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district are experiencing a resurgence in water levels due to heavy rainfall, prompting fears of flooding in areas along their banks. Tharali town, situated on the banks of the Pindar, is facing a flood-like situation as both rivers swell once again. According to Ravindra Negi, Additional Information Officer, intermittent heavy rain has been persisting in the vicinity of the Pindar and Pranmati since August 13, exacerbating the situation.
The region is grappling with additional challenges
The region is grappling with additional challenges, as landslides continue to obstruct several roads across the hilly terrain. Key routes like the Badrinath National Highway remain blocked due to landslide debris at Chhinka and Maithana near Chamoli. Nandprayag, Pagalnala, and Belakuchi are also affected, hindering transportation in the area. As a precautionary measure, schools in Dasholi and Nandnagar blocks have been temporarily closed due to the relentless downpour.
Rudraprayag district of the state is contending with heavy rains
In a parallel predicament, the Rudraprayag district of the state is contending with heavy rains and adverse weather conditions, which have disrupted helicopter services to the revered Kedarnath temple. Rahul Chaubey, the nodal officer, revealed that private aviation companies Trans Bharat Aviation and Himalaya Heli, responsible for heli services to Kedarnath from Guptkashi and Sirsi, have been compelled to drastically curtail their flights due to the persistently unfavorable weather.
As the inclement weather persists, the challenges posed by rising river levels, landslides, and blocked roads underscore the vulnerability of the region during the monsoon season. The authorities are working diligently to manage the situation and mitigate further risks to both infrastructure and human lives.
