According to his relatives, when they went to meet him in the police station, they witnessed him being beaten by officers. He apparently died about 11 p.m. after being denied permission to meet with them.
In a statement to the media, Suniti, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Kanpur Rural, stated that an autopsy revealed Balwant Singh had passed away “from a heart attack.”
But there were visible signs of injuries all over the body, especially on the knees and lower back, which suggested a serious assault.
The family members and a sizable portion of the town objected when they saw the scars on the body that was given to them today, and they refused to cremate the body unless tougher action was done. Eventually, a case against nine police officers was filed.

A panel of doctors are currently conducting another autopsy at the request of BJP MP Devendra Singh Bhole and report is anticipated.
There were 22 severe injury marks on Balwant Singh’s body, he claimed, accusing the district’s civic leadership and top police officials of trying to “cover the facts.” According to him, the individual was detained as a result of a fabrication spurred on by “political competition at the village level.”
He told over the phone, “I have notified (Chief Minister) Yogi Adityanath about the entire situation. “I agree that there have been excesses by the police, and they will also face punishment. A murder charge under IPC Section 302 has been brought.
He mentioned the relief the family had received. We have given the family 4 lakh as compensation, along with some land for the victim’s mother and wife, free housing through the PM Awas Yojana, and a pension for the victim’s mother.
