Officials informed on Sunday that the Kedarnath Yatra has been halted in Sonprayag, Uttarakhand, due to heavy rain in the Rudraprayag area. Mayur Dixit, the Rudraprayag District Magistrate, remarked “Kedarnath has been closed till further orders till the heavy rains continue.”
On April 25 of this year, the yatra to the Lord Shiva temple got under way. According to official data issued on June 22, during the current Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, over 30 lakh pilgrims have visited Char Dham and over 10 lakh pilgrims have visited Kedarnath.
Intense rain in Uttrakhand
As the southwest monsoon made its way into the state on Saturday, it dumped a lot of rain in a few districts of Uttarakhand. According to the India Meteorological Department, Haridwar had the most recent 24-hour rainfall with 78 mm, followed by Dehradun (33.2) and Uttarkashi (27.7).
