New Criminal Laws— Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar has expressed strong support for the newly implemented criminal laws, describing this development as a day of liberation for the criminal justice system. In his statement, DGP Kumar emphasized that the revolutionary changes in the three colonial-era laws signify the advent of a ‘Swadeshi’ criminal justice system in India.
Revolutionary Changes in Criminal Laws
The DGP highlighted the significant transformation that the criminal justice system is undergoing. “With respect to the criminal justice system, this is a day of liberation. In the sense that the three laws of the colonial era saw revolutionary changes today. ‘Swadeshi’ criminal justice system will now be implemented in our country,” he said.
High-Level Committees and Training
The State Government and the Police Department had each formed high-level committees to work on various aspects of the new criminal laws. The committees have been diligently working to ensure a smooth transition. By June 30, comprehensive offline and online training had been completed for over 24,000 police personnel across Uttarakhand. This extensive training ensures that all personnel are well-versed in the new laws and procedures.
Implementation of New FIRs
DGP Kumar also noted the immediate implementation of the new criminal laws. FIRs based on these new laws began to be registered from midnight. “So far, 3 FIRs have been registered across the state under the new laws,” he informed.
Conclusion
The implementation of the new criminal laws marks a significant shift in the criminal justice system of Uttarakhand. The DGP’s comments reflect a broader sense of optimism and readiness within the state’s police force to embrace and enforce these revolutionary changes. This move is expected to modernize the legal framework and enhance the efficiency and fairness of criminal justice in the state.
