Uttarakhand News: The Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, is set to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill during the upcoming Assembly session scheduled from February 5 to 8. The bill is expected to be presented on February 6, marking a significant step toward implementing a common civil code in the state.
Details of the UCC Bill Presentation:
The UCC Committee, formed earlier to draft the bill, is slated to submit its report on February 2. Chief Minister Dhami emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling the promise made to the people during the 2022 assembly elections. The comprehensive UCC aims to provide a unified set of laws applicable to all citizens, irrespective of their religious beliefs.
Additional Legislation for Reservation:
In addition to the UCC Bill, the government plans to introduce a separate bill proposing a 10% horizontal reservation in government services for state agitators and their dependents. This move reflects an effort to address the concerns and demands of specific groups within the state.
Implementation Timeline:
After receiving the UCC Committee’s report on February 2, the government will present it to the Cabinet for further consideration. Following the Cabinet’s review, the bill is expected to be presented in the state assembly, paving the way for the potential enactment of the Uniform Civil Code Act in Uttarakhand.
