Locals of Joshimath, Uttarakhand have opened a front against the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). Locals have started protesting against NTPC by placing posters of ‘NTPC Go Back’ against NTPC in their residential houses and shops.
While the existence of Joshimath is in constant danger due to continuous landslides happening in Joshimath, the local people of Joshimath are holding NTPC responsible for this. The local people protested against NTPC and took to the streets. Now the villagers have started putting up NTPC Go Back posters in their residential houses, shops and vehicles.
Cracks in ropeway tower
On the other hand, cracks have appeared on the platform of Asia’s largest Joshimath-Auli ropeway due to landslide. In view of this danger, the operation of the ropeway has been stopped. These cracks have come on the ropeway on Friday night. One tower of the ropeway is in an area declared unsafe by the administration. Because of this, apprehensions about the ropeway had also increased.

Earlier, where the administration has declared four wards unsafe, Manohar Bagh ward is also there. Ropeway tower number one has been installed here. Ropeway manager Dinesh Bhatt said that the ropeway tower is being regularly monitored every day. The distance of this ropeway from Joshimath to Auli is about four km. It has 10 towers.It takes 15 minutes to reach Auli from Joshimath by ropeway. The first choice of tourists to reach Auli is by ropeway.
Government will conduct survey
On the other hand, the number of unsafe buildings in Joshimath city is continuously increasingTaking lessons from the Joshimath disaster, the state cabinet has decided to conduct a survey of the carrying capacity of all hill towns. In the first phase, approval has been given to conduct the survey in Municipal Corporation, Municipality, Nagar Panchayat areasDue to population and haphazard construction works, pressure is increasing in the hill cities beyond their carrying capacity. One of the reasons behind the Joshimath landslide is also attributed to the construction exceeding the load carrying capacity of the city.
