Uttarakhand News: Eight people have died and almost fifteen more have been injured in a horrifying accident that happened on the Rishikesh-Badrinath route in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. A tempo traveller with over 23 people on board fell into a deep gorge, causing the disaster.
Details of the Incident
Uttarakhand Police issued a statement, shared by news agency ANI, in which Rudraprayag SP Vishakha Ashok Bhadane said, “We have received information that there were 23 people in the Tempo Traveller. Around 15 injured people have been sent to hospital for treatment. Rescue operation is underway.”
Talking to news agency ANI, IG Garhwal, Karan Singh Nagnyal said, “Rudraprayag SP is on the spot…The tempo traveller was coming from Noida (UP) towards Rudraprayag…It fell into a 150-200 metre deep gorge. 7 bodies have been recovered. 9 people were rushed to the hospital during which 1 of them died. The driver is very critically injured. So, it is not clear how many people were onboard the vehicle. Police, SDRF and local people are engaged in rescue operations…Rescue operation is underway.”
Government Response
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken swift action, directing that seriously injured victims be airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for urgent medical care. He has assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the injured receive the best treatment possible.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He acknowledged the efforts of local authorities and SDRF teams in providing relief and rescue operations.
