Uttarakhand News: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to face scrutiny from its central leadership following its defeat in the Mangalour and Badrinath assembly by-elections. Despite not holding these seats previously, the central leadership aimed for a win to build momentum ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. The recent losses now necessitate an explanation from the party’s senior figures.
The BJP’s state executive committee meeting, scheduled for July 15, will see an in-depth analysis of the by-election results. BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt acknowledged the significance of learning from these setbacks, stating, “We learn from defeats. The results of the by-elections will be reviewed during the executive committee meeting. We will address the shortcomings and move forward. I accept this defeat, but the BJP remains steadfast in its position.”
Bhatt also commented on the Congress party’s victory, noting that it was bolstered by support from the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) and left-wing parties. “The Congress did not win on its own. It was supported by other parties. In Mangalour, the Congress could only manage a narrow victory with a margin of 422 votes, indicating that BJP’s influence is growing in the area,” he added.
BJP’s Intensive Campaign Efforts
The BJP had mobilized its top leaders for the by-elections. In Badrinath, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni was appointed as the overseer, while Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat chaired the election management committee. A dedicated team campaigned in Badrinath under their leadership, and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also campaigned in the constituency. Despite these efforts, the BJP did not secure a victory.
In Mangalour, Haridwar MP Trivendra Singh Rawat was assigned as the overseer. A team of MPs and MLAs continuously supported the BJP candidate, yet the party was unable to clinch the seat.
- Central Leadership Seeks Answers
According to party sources, the BJP’s central leadership will seek answers from senior state leaders regarding the losses. A detailed review at both the state and central levels is anticipated to identify the reasons behind the defeats. This review aims to address the gaps in the campaign strategy and strengthen the party’s position ahead of future elections.
As the BJP grapples with these setbacks, the upcoming executive committee meeting is expected to chart the course for the party’s strategy and corrective measures moving forward.
