The Uttarakhand government is set to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) lab in the state to enhance its capabilities in dealing with cybercrime. Additional Director General (ADG) Law and Order, MP Anshuman, has directed the Special Task Force (STF) to prepare a proposal for the establishment of the lab. During a review of the functions of the STF and Cyber Crime Police Station on Wednesday, ADG Anshuman also took decisions to increase the current manpower in STF, Cyber Crime Stations, and Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).

Emphasizing the importance of AI in the current era, ADG Anshuman urged police officials to be vigilant against criminals who are increasingly using artificial intelligence for criminal activities. He stressed the need for police to strengthen their capabilities in this area to effectively combat cybercrime.

ADG Anshuman expressed his support for the establishment of a Cyber Center of Excellence and an AI and ML lab, which has been under consideration for some time. He highlighted the continuous efforts required to stay ahead of criminal activities involving AI and directed officials to coordinate intelligence efforts to stay vigilant.
He also instructed the officials to work on the proposal for establishing the AI and ML lab and emphasized the importance of staying proactive in dealing with cybersecurity challenges. ADG Anshuman stressed the need for a coordinated approach with prison authorities to monitor activities of gangs operating from jails and directed officials to maintain a watchful eye on such activities.
