Uttarakhand News: Uttarakhand is experiencing severe weather conditions as intense rainfall has battered various parts of the state. In the Tehri district’s Ghansali tehsil, a cloudburst on Tuesday night caused significant destruction. Two houses were damaged, and some livestock were buried alive under debris. Several residential buildings are now at risk, and many villages are expected to face considerable damage. The Ghuttu revenue area of Ghansali has been identified as the most affected by the heavy rains.
Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rainfall
The Meteorological Department has forecasted continued severe weather across Uttarakhand. A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued from August 21 to August 25. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has specifically warned of intense rainfall in the districts of Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Nainital, and Champawat over the next 24 hours. Other districts may experience lighter showers.
Damage Reports: Homes and Livestock Lost
The heavy rainfall has led to devastating effects in several villages including Ranidang, Jogiyana, Bhatgaon, Ghuttu, Bhilang, Saman, Veena, Devaling, and Kanda. As of the latest updates, two houses and three cattle sheds have been destroyed, with seven animals reportedly buried alive. Many footpaths and fields have been washed away. Affected residents are being accommodated in the Government Inter College and Navjeevan Ashram.
Fatalities and Displacement
In addition to the damage in Ghansali, reports indicate that flash floods have affected other regions. In Nainital district, the intense rainfall caused the fatality of a motorcyclist who was swept away in the strong currents of Fatehpur Nala in Kotabagh. Rescue teams successfully recovered the body after extensive efforts.
Dehradun: Missing and Rescued Individuals
In Dehradun district, heavy rains have led to one individual being swept away in Purukul village, while another was rescued by locals. The search for the missing person is ongoing. Dehradun experienced torrential rainfall overnight, with recorded rainfalls of 110 mm in Kaladhungi, 96 mm in Chorgalia, 86 mm in Haldwani, 108 mm in Karnprayag, and 90 mm in Tejam.
The situation remains dire, and authorities are urging residents to stay alert and follow safety guidelines during this period of intense weather.
