In a resolute move to restore law and order, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has declared that a new police station will be erected on land recently liberated from encroachment in Haldwani’s Banbhoolpura. This decision comes in the aftermath of a violent incident that shook the region.
The Violent Episode
On February 8, chaos erupted when civic authorities attempted to dismantle an illegally constructed madrasa on government land in Banbhoolpura. A Muslim mob fiercely attacked the officials, resulting in a wave of violence that reverberated across Uttarakhand’s Haldwani. The confrontation left at least six people dead and over 300 police personnel injured. Among the victims were brave women officers who faced the brunt of the unruly mob.
Land Cleared and Justice Sought
During the demolition drive in the ‘Malik Ka Bagicha’ area of Banbhoolpura, several acres of land were successfully freed from encroachment. CM Dhami, speaking from the sacred banks of the Ganges, made a solemn promise: “Today, I announce that a police station will be built at that very place.” His unwavering commitment to restoring peace and ensuring justice for the assaulted officers and journalists is evident.
Arrests and Recovery
The Nainital Police wasted no time in apprehending 30 rioters involved in the violent clash. The seized cache included pistols, guns, and other ammunition—items that had been looted during the attack on the Banbhoolpura police station. The hunt for the main accused, Abdul Malik, continues.
A Clear Message to Rioters
CM Dhami minced no words: “The law is taking its course. Whoever was behind this conspiracy will soon be brought before the public.” His stern warning to anti-social elements underscores the government’s resolve to maintain peace in Devbhumi Uttarakhand.
FIRs Filed
Uttarakhand authorities have registered three First Information Reports (FIRs) against 5000 unnamed and 19 known individuals involved in the violent incident. The wheels of justice are turning, and the state remains steadfast in its pursuit of accountability.
