Uttarakhand News: Govt has introduced a significant change in the distribution system, providing assurance to consumers of free wheat and rice. The worry of ration suspension due to fingerprint mismatches or lack of updates is now alleviated, offering a reprieve to consumers even with the central government’s stringent biometric identification requirements.
Consumers to get wheat & rice without fingerprint match
As per Additional Commissioner-Food, PS Pangati, consumers who are genuinely facing biometric identification issues will receive their ration irrespective of whether their fingerprint gets matched or not. However, each ration dealer must record accurate details in their register. This provision will apply only under exceptional circumstances.
Starting today, the state has initiated the distribution of ration through a biometric system in government ration shops, following stringent directives from the Central Government. There were several reports regarding these incidents. Ration dealers are concerned about certain drawbacks in the biometric system, notably related to the outdated fingerprints of senior citizens.
Central govt clears invoices
Government ration dealers in Uttarakhand, who had been awaiting their grain distribution commission for 13 months, received good news as the Central Government disbursed the overdue commission amounting to Rs 58.71 crore. The state government had previously released Rs 20 crore. Additional Commissioner-Food, PS Pangati, confirmed the receipt of the Union Budget.
