According to sources, Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to adopt the Uniform Civil Code the following week. They further said that in the coming days, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami would get a report from a committee chaired by Justice (retired) Ranjana Desai. The week following Diwali, the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will convene a special session to pass the Uniform Civil Code bill and give it legal standing.
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft committee member, retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, announced in June of this year that the state government would shortly get the finished Uniform Civil Code for Uttarakhand.
“It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that the drafting of the proposed Uniform Civil Code of Uttarakhand is now complete,” she said.
“The report of the expert committee along with the draft will be printed and submitted to the Government of Uttarakhand,” Justice Desai added.
Gujarat will be the second state to adopt Uniform Civil Code:
Additionally, according to sources, Gujarat may adopt the Uniform Civil Code before to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, imitating Uttarakhand. Gujarat will be the second state to adopt the Uniform Civil Code after taking this action.
