The members of the Uttarakhand Berojgar Sangh remained on strike for the third day on Saturday as well. They are demanding the release of the protesters arrested by the police. At the same time, in view of the possibility of an uproar, the police force is deployed on the spot.
State bandh of Uttarakhand unemployed union remained ineffective
Uttarakhand Berojgar Sangh’s state bandh on Friday in protest against the lathi charge on the unemployed youths who went on rampage during the protest in Dehradun remained ineffective. Unemployed youths protested against the police action across the state.
Political parties also took to the streets in his support. In view of the apprehension of uproar, heavy police force was also deployed at various places. The unemployed remained in protest till late Friday night at the martyr’s memorial located in the court complex in the capital Dehradun. The police kept trying to persuade them.
There was a clash between the unemployed youth and the police
Unemployed youths protesting outside Gandhi Park and the police clashed on Thursday demanding a CBI inquiry into the rigging of recruitment examinations and postponing the recruitment examinations until the anti-copying law is implemented. The furious mob pelted stones at the police. Police vehicles were also targeted.
When the situation turned uncontrollable, the police lathi-charged and dispersed the crowd. Along with this, other protesters including Bobby Panwar, president of the Uttarakhand Unemployed Union, were arrested. While going in the police vehicle, Bobby issued a video message and called for the Uttarakhand bandh on Friday along with the sit-in demonstrations by the youth across the state.
Cooperation was also sought from organizations like political, social, ex-servicemen, students, employees, businessmen. Despite this Bobby’s appeal for state bandh remained ineffective. Demonstrations were also held in other cities of the state including Dehradun, Haridwar, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Tehri, Utkashi, Pauri, Chamoli, Tanakpur, Sitarganj, Haldwani, Kichha, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar in protest against the lathicharge and demanding the release of the protesters. There is no report of any untoward incident or ruckus from anywhere.
Protests in every city in Kumaon
Police action on unemployed youths was strongly opposed in Kumaon as well. When the youth protested by taking out a procession, the Congress blocked the motorway on the streets. The unemployed and other organizations also burnt the effigy of the government.
