The Uttarakhand Cabinet has given its approval to the Mukhya Mantri Shodh Protsahan Yojana, a scheme aimed at supporting research scholars. Under this scheme, eligible researchers will receive grants for their projects, with a maximum amount of Rs 15 lakh. However, in cases of exceptionally crucial research endeavors, the grant can be increased to Rs 18 lakh based on recommendations from the project-clearance committee.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired the meeting where the scheme was sanctioned, as revealed by Chief Secretary SS Sandhu during a subsequent press briefing. This initiative, effective from the ongoing academic session, intends to promote research across various domains including humanities, social sciences, language and literature, environmental studies, Uttarakhand’s development, science, tourism, pressing issues, and engineering.

Beneficiaries of this scheme will include regular teachers and students from government colleges, aided private colleges, and state universities. The grant will be disbursed in three installments through direct benefit transfer, as explained by Sandhu.
In addition to this, the Cabinet made other decisions, such as offering official positions (both gazetted and non-gazetted) to state-based sportspersons who achieve medals in national and international sporting events. Furthermore, candidates traveling via state roadway buses to examination centers for competitive tests conducted by entities like the Uttarakhand Civil Services Commission, Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Board, and Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board will now receive a 50 percent fare concession from their residence locations.
