Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: In the last 13 days, 41 labourers have been battling for their lives in the Silkyara tunnel disaster in the state of Uttarakhand. The 13th day of the rescue operation is November 24. Every attempt is being made to safely extract the 41 workers. Let us tell you that the American-imported auger machine had to be stopped during this rescue operation. According to officials at the scene of the accident, the auger machine’s drilling had to be halted due to a significant issue in the form of an obstruction.
Iron Fragments Removal
Media reports claim that these iron fragments that were in the way of the auger machine’s progress have been removed. This was a laborious and dangerous task. The intricate procedure took 1.5 days to complete. Since the machine’s augers have been reinstalled, the path is now clear of obstructions.
Auger Machine Reconnection
However, according to Mahmood Ahmed, Additional Secretary for Silkyara Tunnel Rescue, “the auger drilling machine has been reconnected.” Welding will be followed by the two-hour insertion of a new pipe. We are going to push the pipe in after two hours. I’m hoping there won’t be any challenges. Prior to this, knowledgeable Colonel Parikshit Mehra, who was instrumental in the building of the Silkyara Tunnel, stated that the auger machine drilling would soon begin. If all goes according to plan, the work on the escape tunnel will be finished by the evening. There are currently only 9 to 12 metres of drilling remaining.
