Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: Over the phone, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami provided information to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the labourers who were stranded in the tunnel in Silkyara, Uttarkashi. The Chief Minister provided comprehensive details regarding the relief and rescue activities, stating that all state and federal agencies are actively involved in these efforts with promptness and mutual coordination.
Chief Minister’s Hands-On Approach
According to the Chief Minister, he personally visited the location, conducted a local inspection, and is continuously keeping an eye on the rescue efforts. Large diameter hume pipes from Haridwar and Dehradun are scheduled to be sent for rescue efforts. Soon, work will start to install huge diameter pipes inside Uttarkashi’s Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand in order to free 40 workmen who are trapped.
Officials Confirm Safety of 40 Trapped Workers Amid Rescue Efforts
Officials stated that although the rescue effort would take two more days, all 40 of the workers who were trapped in the tunnel were safe and receiving food and water. Early on Sunday, a section of the tunnel being built on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway between Silkyara and Dandalgaon collapsed. According to officials, oxygen is being pumped through pipes to the trapped workers after the rescue attempt began. Once they made contact, they could only obtain light meals and drinking water after midnight.
First Wireless Link Established at Midnight
According to Disaster Management Secretary Ranjit Kumar Sinha, the labourers who are stranded could be freed by Wednesday or Tuesday night. According to Circle Officer Prashant Kumar, on Sunday at midnight, the first wireless link was established with the personnel.
NHIDCL’s Anshu Manish Khalkho Details Ongoing Rescue Efforts
Anshu Manish Khalkho, the director of NHIDCL, stated that the rescue team has made multiple attempts to reach the workers via pipes in order to bring food. In addition to sending food and dried snacks to the workers, rescue crews spent the entire night attempting to set up an escape route.
