UP News: The political scene in Uttar Pradesh is tense. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and CM Yogi Adityanath are at odds once again. This time, it’s over Jayaprakash Narayan’s birth anniversary. Akhilesh Yadav has accused the BJP government of blocking his way to pay tribute. The situation has sparked concerns. People are now wondering how this tussle between the two leaders will shape the upcoming by-election in the state.
Akhilesh Yadav Accuses CM Yogi of Blocking JP Jayanti Tribute
On the occasion of Jayaprakash Narayan Jayanti, Akhilesh Yadav accused CM Yogi Adityanath’s government of deliberately blocking the entrance to the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow. The Samajwadi Party chief planned to pay tribute to the iconic leader but found the main gate covered with tin sheets, effectively denying him and his party entry to the premises.
In protest, Samajwadi Party workers waved flags and displayed posters of Jayaprakash Narayan. This isn’t the first such standoff between the two leaders; last year, a similar situation unfolded when Akhilesh Yadav scaled an 8-foot wall during a protest at the same location.
What Sparked the Latest Controversy?
Akhilesh Yadav visited the JPNIC ahead of his scheduled visit for JP Jayanti and was met with barricades and tin sheets covering the entrance. Criticizing the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government, he told reporters, “The government is trying to hide something. Why can’t we pay homage to a great leader like Jayaprakash Narayan? This is not a construction site; it’s a sale site.”
Why Akhilesh Yadav Was Not Allowed to Visit JPNIC
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), however, cited security concerns for the block, claiming that construction materials and rain-induced hazards made the site unsafe for public entry. Akhilesh Yadav, undeterred, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration, accusing the BJP of disrespecting freedom fighters like JP. He wrote, “BJP’s closed thinking is symbolized by the wall they’ve built. They can’t even pay tribute to revolutionaries because they carry the guilt of not participating in the country’s freedom struggle.”
How Will This Faceoff Impact UP By-Elections?
This political clash comes at a critical time for both parties. With by-elections scheduled for 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, the tension between Akhilesh Yadav and Yogi Adityanath could sway public sentiment. The by-elections, covering seats in Ghaziabad, Kundarki, Khair, Mirapur, Karhal, Katehari, Milkipur, Majhawan, Sisamau, and Phulpur, are set to be highly contested, and political parties have already begun their preparations.
