The capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, is currently in the spotlight due to the Yogi Government’s campaign against illegal encroachments. The UP government is conducting surveys in various residential areas of Lucknow to develop the Kukrail Riverfront and demolishing illegal structures.
The next areas targeted for demolition are Pant Nagar, Rahim Nagar, and Khurram Nagar in Lucknow. Amidst this, the distress of residents in these localities has come to light, prompting former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, Akhilesh Yadav, to criticise the Yogi government. Akhilesh Yadav has demanded an immediate halt to what he calls an injustice by the current government.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Attack on Yogi Government
Former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav took a strong stand against the Yogi government by sharing a video report from the news channel ‘Aaj Tak’. The report features women from the affected residential areas expressing their anguish over their homes being demolished for the Kukrail Riverfront project. The women can be seen showing their property registration papers, valid documents, house tax receipts, and electricity bills, questioning the government’s actions.
Quoting the video report, Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at the Yogi government, stating, “To build ghats, settled homes are not demolished. Only those with family can understand the tender feeling of a home in a woman’s heart. Those who spend their lives with their mothers, sisters, daughters and life partners understand the essence of this pain. If the houses of these people are illegal, then first the houses of those officers and people of the ministry who allowed them to be built should be demolished. Also, the money that the government has taken for years in the name of tax, electricity and water should be returned to these residents of Lucknow with interest.”
He further wrote, “Is this the truth of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Housing Scheme of the BJP government? Is all this being done in the name of collecting election donations from the companies building river fronts? This should be investigated. BJP should not take revenge of its political defeat in UP from its family members. This injustice must stop immediately. We are with every family member.”
Kukrail Riverfront Development Plan
The Yogi government plans to develop the Kukrail Riverfront by removing illegal encroachments along the banks of the Kukrail River in Lucknow. The government has instructed the removal of all illegal constructions within a 50-meter radius on both sides of the Kukrail River.
