Aligarh News: In a startling incident at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) located in the Civil Line area, the campus was rattled by an armed attack in the college canteen. Masked assailants, numbering around half a dozen, unleashed a flurry of bullets on Sunday night. The motive behind this shocking attack was reportedly the demand for extortion money from the canteen operator, Mohammad Mudassar Khan.
Extortion Demand and Confrontation
The incident unfolded when one of the accused individuals sought to intimidate Mohammad Mudassar Khan into paying a substantial sum as extortion money, commonly known as “Chauth.” A staggering demand of Rs 50,000 was made, but Khan bravely refused to comply with this illegal demand.
Violence Erupts
On the fateful Sunday night, the accused, armed with weapons and concealed identities behind masks, descended upon the canteen with destructive intentions. Chaos ensued as the assailants began vandalizing the premises and eventually resorted to opening fire. The gunfire triggered a stampede, resulting in the unfortunate injury of a woman who was promptly rushed to JN Medical College for medical attention.
CCTV Footage as Crucial Evidence
The entire ordeal was captured on the college’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident upon receiving the report and initiated an examination of the scene. Utilizing the CCTV footage, authorities have launched efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this shocking attack.
Police Involvement and Case Registration
Jurisdictional officer Ashok Kumar Singh confirmed that local law enforcement promptly arrived at the scene following the reports of the violent incident stemming from a transaction dispute at the canteen, located in front of Ward No. 11 of the Medical College in the Civil Line area. The police conducted a thorough investigation and, based on the complaint filed by the canteen operator, have registered a case against the accused at the Civil Lines police station. An active investigation into the case is currently underway to bring those responsible to justice.
