Aligarh News: Another city in Uttar Pradesh, is probably going to get a new name after Allahabad. The proposal to rename Aligarh as Harigarh was approved by the Aligarh Municipal Corporation on Monday with a unanimous vote. All council members supported the suggestion, which was made by Mayor Prashant Singhal, according to media reports.
“In a meeting yesterday, a proposal was presented to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh. All councillors unanimously supported this. Now, this proposal will be sent to the administration. I hope that the administration will take cognizance of this and fulfill our demand to change the name of Aligarh to Harigarh…This demand was being raised for a long time,” Singhal told Media.
Proposal for approval:
The Uttar Pradesh government will now receive the proposal for approval. The BJP-ruled state’s expanding list of sites whose names have been changed will rise if the plan is approved. During the term of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the district of Faizabad became the Ayodhya district and the city of Allahabad became Prayagraj. Pandit Deen Dayal Junction is the new name for the Mughal Sarai Junction.
Suggestion to rename Aligarh airport:
On the other hand, calls to rename Aligarh have been made previously as well. The Aligarh zila panchayat adopted a resolution in 2021 proposing to rename Aligarh as Harigarh. There was also a suggestion to rename the Aligarh airport in honour of former chief minister and BJP leader Kalyan Singh.
