Gangster Atiq Ahmed, who is being taken from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday thanked the media and said that he is safe only because of the media. Atiq’s convoy had stopped for a while in Bundi, Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, media personnel talked to him. Atiq said that ‘my family has been ruined… I was in jail, what would I know about this (Umesh Pal murder case)’.
Earlier, while being taken out of Sabarmati Jail for Prayagraj, Atiq had said that the police wanted to kill him. They want to kill me. On the other hand, UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak has said that the government is monitoring the entire matter and aims to get the strictest punishment.
Pathak said, “We are following the court order. Now criminals will not be able to escape in Uttar Pradesh. The government is monitoring the entire matter and our aim is to get the harshest punishment.’
Last March 28, Atiq Ahmed was convicted and sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by an MP-MLA court in the Umesh Pal kidnapping case. Atiq Ahmed and his family are under the scanner in the Umesh Pal murder case.
Atiq Ahmed, who has more than 100 cases registered against him in the last 43 years, has so far been convicted in only one case.
Delhi Police arrested three
The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested three people from the national capital for allegedly helping Asad, son of jailed gangster Atiq Ahmed, and conspiring to kill Umesh Pal. The three arrested people have been identified as Javed, Khalid and Zeeshan.
