The recent installation of an incinerator at a local animal shelter in Noida has sparked concerns among environmentalists and residents regarding potential pollution risks. The incinerator, intended for the disposal of animal carcasses, has raised questions about its impact on air quality and public health.
Environmental experts argue that the incinerator’s emissions, including particulate matter, greenhouse gases, and potentially harmful chemicals, could pose a threat to the surrounding ecosystem. They express worry over the potential for air pollution, which may have adverse effects on both humans and wildlife residing in the vicinity.

Residents in nearby neighborhoods have also voiced their concerns about the potential health risks associated with the incinerator. They fear that the emissions could exacerbate respiratory conditions and contribute to the deterioration of air quality in the area. Many are calling for a thorough investigation into the potential consequences and a reassessment of the shelter’s waste disposal methods.
Local authorities and the animal shelter management have acknowledged the concerns raised by the public and assure that they are taking the matter seriously. They emphasize the need for an environmentally responsible solution to address the disposal of animal remains while minimizing any adverse effects on the environment and human health.
“The proposed incinerator centre is surrounded by commercial offices, with thousands of employees. There is also a university, with thousands of students studying and living in hostels, and many medical and health centres. We have written several letters to the Authority, asking it to seek authorisation from the Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (UPPCB). But the Authority has failed to provide us with any letter approving the incinerator centre,” said Manish Lodha, a resident.
In response to the growing concerns, the animal shelter management has pledged to conduct a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and explore alternative waste management methods. They aim to find a solution that strikes a balance between animal welfare and environmental sustainability.
