Following the perception of a terrorist threat, the UP Police will further tighten security at Hindu sacred sites in Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mathura, senior police officials declared here on Thursday. More anti-sabotage (AS) check teams, a crucial component of security equipment for finding any explosive objects and undesired materials, were going to be sent there, according to what they claimed.
Two new AS check teams will be deployed on the grounds of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, as well as one each at the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi and the Vrindavan temple in Mathura, according to ADG (security) Binod Kumar Singh. On Thursday, ten AS check teams were signalled off to respective locations.
“Besides four teams to be deployed at religious places, six others will remain deployed at Government Railway Police divisions in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Agra and Jhansi,” he added.
The ADG reported that new anti-sabotage inspection teams and bomb detection and disposal squads (BDDS) have lately been added to the arsenal at state security headquarters.
“Two BDDS and two anti-sabotage check teams were deployed for security checks on the Ram Janmabhoomi premises in Ayodhya in April,” he said, adding, “One BDDS was stationed in the Lucknow Secretariat Complex, the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Division, the Allahabad High Court in Prayagraj, the Varanasi Police, and the PAC’s 30th battalion at Gonda.
According to the ADG, there were five BDDS teams in 1987. By 2010, there were 26 teams. The state security headquarters created a proposal for the expansion of BDDS and AS check teams in 2021 while taking into account the security issues in UP and the perception of threat there.
He said that cutting-edge tools had been purchased for the new squads’ formation, and their members had received training at the training facilities of the National Security Guards in Manesar, Haryana, and the CRPF in Pune.
“At present, the UP Security HQ has 61 AS check teams and 31 BDDS teams. All the BDDS teams are equipped with air-conditioned buses for their movement,” he stated.
