Jayant Chaudhary: The Khair Assembly seat in Western UP is currently at the center of heated discussions due to the ongoing by-election (UP Bypolls). To secure this crucial seat, both the ruling BJP and the opposition party SP are leaving no stone unturned. In this context, UP CM Yogi Adityanath will campaign in Khair today, while RLD Chief Jayant Chaudhary is set to visit on Sunday.
This by-election is critical, especially for the Jat-dominated Khair constituency, where Jayant Chaudhary’s RLD aims to make a significant impact. Alongside CM Yogi Adityanath and Jayant Chaudhary, several top leaders and local workers are deeply involved in the electoral battle. The key question remains: Can CM Yogi and Jayant Chaudhary sway the voters in their favor? Let’s explore the evolving political equation in Khair.
CM Yogi Adityanath’s Rally in Khair
Today, CM Yogi Adityanath will address a public meeting at Paliwal Farm House in Jattari town. During his rally, the BJP leader will seek support for NDA candidate Surendra Diler, emphasizing the government’s policies and development agenda. CM Yogi’s address aims to consolidate support across different voter groups, particularly the Jat community, which plays a pivotal role in Khair.
Jayant Chaudhary to Address Voters on Sunday
After CM Yogi, on Sunday, Jayant Chaudhary will be in Khair. The RLD chief will address a public meeting at Chaudhary Sahib Singh Bohre Mahavidyalaya, located at Gautam Chauraha, at 11 AM. All eyes are on Jayant Chaudhary and his party RLD’s role in the elections, given the political equation in Khair.
The Political Demographics of Khair Assembly
Khair Assembly, part of the Aligarh Lok Sabha constituency, presents a unique political landscape. The constituency has approximately 4.04 lakh voters, with the Jat community forming the largest bloc of around 1.25 lakh voters. Additionally, the constituency includes 90,000 Brahmin voters, 50,000 Dalit voters, and 40,000 Muslim voters.
Given this demographic breakdown, the Jat community emerges as the most influential voter group. Recognising this, both the BJP and SP are strategically focusing their campaigns on winning over Jat voters. Interestingly, the BJP hopes to leverage Jayant Chaudhary’s RLD to secure Jat support, while SP has also adopted its own strategies to appeal to this critical community.
Candidates and Strategic Alliances
The BJP has fielded Surendra Diler, while the SP has nominated Charu Kain, both of whom belong to the SC community. Charu Kain is the wife of Kartik Jatav and the daughter-in-law of former District Panchayat President Tej Veer Singh (also known as Guddu Chaudhary), both of whom are considered strong Jat leaders. Therefore, both BJP and SP have been working hard to improve their electoral chances.
Who Holds the Edge—BJP or SP?
Journalist Rahul Chaudhary, associated with DNP India, has been keeping a close watch on the political situation in Khair. He has done several ground reports to understand the local dynamics better. According to Rahul, “Khair Assembly by-election will be heavily influenced by the Jat voters. Given the large number of Jat voters, both BJP and SP have focused on winning over this community. While SP is projecting Jat leaders Kartik Jatav and Guddu Chaudhary, the BJP is putting forward Jayant Chaudhary to rally Jat votes in its favor.”
Rahul Chaudhary further adds, “Based on current dynamics, the contest in Khair is a direct one between the BJP and SP. Both candidates—Charu Kain and Surendra Diler—are giving each other a tough competition. If we look at the previous assembly elections, the seat was won by BJP in 2017 and 2022. In 2022, BJP’s Anup Valmiki won this seat, and he was later elected as the MP from Hathras in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, BJP’s claim on the seat remains strong. It is difficult to predict the final result, but the role of the Jat community will be crucial in determining the winner.”
